
As part of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game activities, Commissioner Rob Manfred and World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán, held a meeting in Denver, Colorado.
It was joined by the legendary Cal Ripken Jr. and Salvador Quirarte, tireless promoter of baseball in Mexico.
Due to prudence, the COVID-19 pandemic was not an impediment for both allied organizations, to implement the best possible protocols firmly intended to knock it out, with a home run impact.
During these these discussions, Mauricio Sulaimán detailed to and shared with the Major League Baseball Chief, the carefully formulated and successfully implemented WBC health protocol that is applied throughout Mexico and all around the world.
The aim and its achievement, involved boxing cards returning, so the boxers would be active again, and getting paid for what they do best, with their safety and health, as the number one priority
MLB, for its part, implemented the bubbles to fully protect its players and staff. This is a method which was followed both in the regular season and in the playoffs.
Both leaders also referred to the vital importance of promoting the practice and participation in sport to bolster and reinforce mental health, by fostering well being. All of this during the pandemic, which is still very much with us. None of us can let our guard down!
In so doing, Major League Baseball and the World Boxing Council strengthen their friendship ties, working together in unison for world sport.
