Only two months after being crowned World Boxing Council flyweight champion, Julio César Martínez will defend his crown against unbeaten Welshman Jay Harris.
It`s a key segment of the card starring Mickey Garcia and Jessie Vargas, this Saturday in Frisco, Texas, and will be broadcast live on DAZN in the United States and on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.
Martinez, who won the Green and Gold Belt by knocking out the Nicaraguan Cristofer Rosales, will now face Harris, who has an undefeated record of 17 wins, nine of them by knockout.
For the 29-year-old Brit, it will be his first title fight in the United States, so Martínez has the experience of his side, even though he`s still only 25 years old and 16 fights as a professional (15-1).
Both fighters participated in a press conference where they were respectful and without speaking too much, each promised the victory.
“We have had a great training camp. I am ready to make the first defense of my title. I am very excited, and I just want to arrive on Saturday to get into the ring and win,” said the champion.
For his part Harris said: “The whole journey to reach this point in my career has been amazing. Many times I thought about quitting boxing, but there are people who motivated me to keep going. I am here for a reason, I am ready to fulfill every boxer’s dream, conquering the WBC Green and Gold Belt.”
