World Boxing Council, third ranked super lightweight Mexican José “Chon” Zepeda will fight American Kendo Castañeda, this Tuesday at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It`s promoted by Top Rank and will be televised on ESPN. A little over a year ago, Zepeda (31-2, 25 knockouts) challenged world champion Jose Ramirez in Fresno, California, offering a very good fight in a majority decision that allowed Ramirez to retain his WBC crown.
Zepeda did very well on the Tyson Fury vs. Otto Wallin card last September at the T-Mobile Arena, beating former world champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza in 10 rounds.
San Antonio’s Castañeda (17-1, 8 knockouts) entered the bout after Zepeda’s original opponent Ivan Baranchyk suffered a training injury. Castaneda hopes to recover from his first loss in his career, a majority decision against undefeated Yomar Alamo in February.
In the main backup match of this evening, Andy Vences (23-1-1, 12 KOs), from San José, California, will face Luis Alberto López (20-2, 11 KOs), who has won three fights in a row following a decision loss to undefeated contender Rubén Villa.
