Mexican Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will defend his super middleweight world titles against undisputed super welterweight world champion, Jermell Charlo, on Saturday, September 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo makes his third title defense, this time against Charlo, in what will be the first confrontation of the four-belt era that pits two undisputed champions against each other.
Houston’s Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KOs) unified the super welterweight titles in his last fight, knocking out Brian Castaño in the 10th round of their May 2022 rematch after they drew in July 2021.
Charlo is training under the command of one of today’s most renowned coaches, Derrick James.
Charlo considers himself one of the best fighters of the moment and is sure that he will have a successful debut in the 168-pound division.
“This fight will let me know that I am right where I need to be. I am very excited to be able to make history once again on September 30th. This is the biggest fight in boxing and I’m going to leave it all in the ring like I do every time.
“Canelo is a great fighter, but he will see what I am made of. When the fight is over, people will have to recognize that I am the best fighter in the sport,” Charlo commented.
With a win, Charlo would add his name to legendary champions like Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns and Roy Jones Jr. by successfully jumping two weight classes to win a world title.
