Carlos Palomino and Roberto Duran WBC Pow Wow

This week we will witness another historic chapter in the welterweight division, when Errol Spence Jr. defends his WBC title against former two-division champion Danny Garcia, so to compliment and give it perspective, we wanted to remember one of our favorite fights in this division, starring Carlos Palomino and Roberto Duran.

In a talk full of camaraderie, laughter and great anecdotes, Duran and Palomino recalled their confrontation, which took place 31 years ago at Madison Square Garden.

Carlos Palomino had just been defeated by Wilfred Benítez by split decision when he was offered the battle against Duran. Believing that he could get the victory since the Panamanian was coming up from the lightweight  division, he accepted gladly and without question. However, he was shocked and immediately realized that he was facing one helluva fighter. Palomino had to work long and hard and although he did not get the victory, he managed to go the distance in a fight that was quite close.

Duran remembered Palomino as the strongest and bravest Mexican fighter he faced during his career. He recognized his quality  and shared great moments during the conversation between them and Víctor Silva.

The panel gave their impression of the welterweight division. They talked about the best fights, the greatest champions, the most startling surprises,  and what to expect this weekend when Errol Spence and Danny Garcia meet.

If you did not have the opportunity to see this interesting conversation, do not miss it in the following link:
