Venezuelan boxer Carlos Cañizales has won the WBC light flyweight title, defeating Thai boxer Panya Pradabsri by knockout in the fifth round of a fight in Caracas, Venezuela.
Cañizales started with an energetic offense, using his left hand to inflict damage and combining punches to the body and head, while Pradabsri played a more defensive role. The Venezuelan maintained his aggressive rhythm in the early rounds, but just as he was showing dominance, the Thai boxer landed a well timed right hook that knocked Cañizales down in the fourth round.
In a surprising turn of events and twist of fate, Cañizales got up and was then determined to finish his opponent in the fifth round, ending the fight with a left hook to the body from which Pradabsri couldn’t recover.
This victory gives the Venezuelan a revenge win against Pradabsri, who had controversially defeated him in a fight in Thailand in December 2024.
With this win, the 32-year-old Cañizales improves his record to 28 wins (20 by knockout), three losses, and one draw in 32 fights. Pradabsri, 34, now has three losses in 47 fights.
