#CampeonesDeLaGuelaguetza- Nonshinga regains the title
Sivenathi Nontshinga recovered the IBF light flyweight world title by defeating Adrián “Gatito” Curiel by technical knockout in 10 rounds, topping the bill of “Champions of the Guelaguetza.”
At the Guelaguetza Auditorium, the Referee stopped the fight at 44 seconds of the tenth round, so Nontshinga recovered the title and ended the short reign of the Mexican, who lost the scepter in its first defense.
Both fighters had promised a war and “Gatito” Curiel seemed to be heading towards his first successful defense after the first seven rounds, as he had been better and even in that round they took away a point from the South African.
But from the eighth Nontshinga began to apply intense pressure, which began to take its toll. At the end of the ninth the bell saved the Mexican after two left hooks to the face, but in the tenth a cascade of blows landed on Curiel, who was saved by the Referee.
In the co-main event of the night, Mauricio “Bronco” Lara and Daniel “Caballo” Lugo had a majority draw after ten rounds in the super featherweight division.
The fight was of little emotion and in which accidental headbutts stood out, at least four. The former world champion returned to action after nine months of absence and apparently that affected him.
Lugo was better at various moments of the fight, with punishment to the body to hurt Bronco Lara. But the judges determined a majority tie with two cards 95-95, and the third 96-95 in favor of Lugo.
For his part, Arturo Cárdenas defeated Ernesto García by a wide unanimous decision, whom he sent to the canvas. The scores were 100-88, 98-91 and 98-91 for the winner, who was proclaimed WBC Continental Americas super bantamweight Champion.
