Camila Zamorano, the newly crowned WBC Interim Atomweight Champion, was officially honored this Tuesday during the traditional Martes de Café event. At just 17 years, 5 months, and 16 days old, Camila has made history as the youngest female boxer to ever win a world title under the WBC, and the first from the state of Sonora to do so.
During the ceremony, Camila was presented with the iconic green and gold belt, plus a mini wrist belt for daily wear, along with her certificate of authenticity, by WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán. Visibly emotional, the young champion expressed her gratitude.
“I want to thank Mauricio for his trust and for giving me this opportunity,” she said.
The event also featured Mexican Senator Lorena Valles, who praised Camila’s achievement not just as an athletic milestone, but as a symbol of female empowerment.
“Thank you, Mauricio, for your commitment to this sport. That commitment goes beyond the ring,” said the senator.
“I’m very happy to be here with a great woman, Camila Zamorano. It’s a tremendous source of pride.
“Our mission is to continue supporting and promoting boxing.
“I’m certain this will be one of many victories in Camila’s career.
“Yes we can—today, women can be whatever we want. Camila is living proof.”

Facing the media, Camila proudly spoke about her achievement and her plans for the future—both in and out of the ring.
“I’m happy to have finished high school. I want to thank my family,” she said.
“I’m proud to be the youngest champion and the first from my state. I’m going to continue my studies at the University of Sonora and keep training in boxing.
“Training hard and remaining champion are my goals for my next fight.”
Promoter Rafael Soto confirmed that her team is already planning her first title defense.
“We’re going to take it step by step. We’re preparing a request to the WBC to authorize a defense on October 18,” he announced.
Camila Zamorano hasn’t just made history in the ring—she represents a new generation of women in boxing who balance discipline, talent, and education. Her journey is just beginning, and all signs point to her becoming a true role model both inside and outside the sport.
