Briedis and Glowacki face time
The second World Boxing Super Series tournament in the cruiserweight division continues with major bouts.
The semifinal round between No. 1 seed Mairis Briedis (25-1, 18 KOs) and No. 3 seed Krzysztof Glowacki (31-1, 19 KOs) will be held on June 15 in Riga, Latvia.
Both fighters discussed aspects of the fight at a press conference held in Riga.
“I cannot wait to enter the ring in Riga,” Glowacki said. “I fought here in 2017 on the undercard of the WBSS Briedis vs Perez quarterfinals, I remember a wonderful atmosphere and thousands of fans cheering for Mairis.
“Not everyone knows, but a few years ago Mairis trained at our gym in Warsaw for a while. We have not faced each other, but I know what he is capable of and I have a lot of respect for him. But I’m sure I’ll beat him.
“I prepare for the best version of Mairis, so he should be prepared for the best version of Glowacki. I always fight until the final bell … or the final blow! It will be a war! “
The local hero Briedis, who arrived at the conference directly from his work as a police officer, commented:
“The reason I’m in my uniform is that I came straight from work, but now it’s time to spend more time in the gym, I look forward to the exceptional atmosphere at Arena Riga and another WBSS semifinal. I will get what I was not capable on the first season. “
“Glowacki is a strong fighter, we’re both going for the win, so it should be an interesting fight.” Glowacki is tough, but there are no weak opponents in this tournament. This is where the best face the best. “
Briedis comes from a win over Noel Mikaelian in the quarterfinals last November, where he won the prestigious World Boxing Council Diamond belt.
For his part, Glowacki won a unanimous decision victory over Maksim Vlasov also in November.
Tickets for the semifinal in Riga on June 15 will soon go on sale. Fans can watch the semifinals LIVE, exclusively by DAZN.
