
World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs), will defend his title against Chinese contender Meng Fanlong (16-0, 10 Ko’s) on Saturday, March 28 at the Videotron Center in Quebec, Canada.
Beterbiev, born in Russia, has established his home in Montreal and will fight for the first time there as world champion. This will be the first defense of the WBC title he won by knocking out former Ukrainian champion Oleksandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk.
Fanlong, originally from Chifeng, China, was an Olympic fighter in 2012 who debuted as pro in January 2015. He is an experienced warrior with a long history as an amateur. Last June he survived an eighth round visit to the canvass, to secure a unanimous decision on the then undefeated Adam Deines. He remained busy last October in New Jersey with a victory in the second round over Gilberto Rubio. Fanlong says that he intends to become the first Chinese boxer to capture a world title in light heavyweight division.
