
Bobby Goodman, matchmaker extraordinaire, publicist supreme and promoter par excellence, has died aged eighty-three, leaving an irreplicable void in Boxing.
Bobby was a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame since 2009, the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame (2009), the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame since 1990, the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame since 2018, the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame since 2019 and recipient of the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America’s James J. Walker Memorial Award for Long and Meritorious Service to Boxing in 1980. He was the son of Murray Goodman, also in the International Boxing Hall of Fame, New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame and Walker Award recipient. Bob Goodman also served as Vice President and Matchmaker for Madison Square Garden from 1985 to 1994. They are the only father-son to have received all of those honors. It signifies their impact and their greatness.
Bobby also spent twenty-five eventful and fruitful years with Don King Productions serving in many capacities – Vice President, Boxing Operations, Matchmaker, and Director of Public Relations.
He was also the President of his own company, Garden State Boxing, where they promoted many world champions.
A boxing man through and through, Bobby Goodman achieved so much in so many facets of the sport. A font of knowledge, wisdom and expertise, Bobby unstintingly shared his lifetime in boxing with up and coming generations via kind, shrewd and priceless advice. A legend, he was always approachable and an effervescent character, who will be sorely missed but forever remembered with fondness and gratitude. We have lost A Great.
Married to Kathleen for fifty-four years, they have four daughters and nine grandchildren.
