Legendary George Foreman and his extraordinary life, hits the silver screen and movie buffs square between the eyes with its world premiere Friday,
A force of nature with the thunderbolts of Zeus in his heyday, “Big George” built a staggering concussive record of 76 wins (68 KOs) and 5 losses in a career spanning 1969 to 1997.
Big George was a gold medalist at the 1968 United States Olympic Games and beat the likes of Joe Frazier (twice), Ken Norton and Ron Lyle during the golden era of heavyweight boxing.
He suffered his first professional loss in 1974 to Muhammad Ali at “The Rumble in the Jungle” in Zaire.
George retired in 1977 after a loss to Jimmy Young; he had a religious epiphany but remained inactive until 1987.
His historic comeback campaign culminated in him becoming the oldest heavyweight champion of all time at the age of 45 when he knocked out Michael Moorer in 1994. Almost twenty years since he ruled the heavyweight division, he reigned again, raining down punches. A brilliantly totally unique and utterly awesome achievement, unlikely to ever be matched.
An ordained Christian minister, George has also deliciously bettered the lives of tens of millions of people as the “Battering” entrepreneur behind the commercially successful George Foreman Grill.
Actor Khris Davis, who played Steel in “Judas and the Black Messiah” and Malik in “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” plays the role of Foreman.
The film is directed by George Tillman Jr. and also stars Forest Whitaker, Matthew Glave, John Magaro, Sullivan Jones, Jasmine Mathews, Sonja Sohn, Shein Mompremier, Lawrence Gilliard Jr, Sam Trammell, Erica Tazel, Matthew Glave and Al .Sapienza.
