Israel is getting ready for a historic night of boxing next week as “Gloves and Doves” prepares to host its first event, with the full support of WBC Amateur.
The project was devised by former London-born boxer Tony Milch, with the mission of promoting peace and understanding between Jews and Arabs, via boxing.
The 40-year-old former boxer, who competed as a super welterweight from 2013-2018, now resides in Israel and cannot wait to present this card as previous attempts, including a full card in London, didn’t come to fruition, as they had to be postponed due to the pandemic of Covid-19.
The July 15 event will take place in Isfiya, northern Israel, at the Gerald Ronson school and will feature a mix of Jewish and Arab boxers.
Milch commented: “Boxing helps bring communities together and keeps children and youth away from crime and violence. Gloves and Doves offers recreational and competitive boxing, focusing the minds of our young people. We give hope, dedication and respect to all those involved, helping to ensure a positive and productive future.
“We are supporters of coexistence, and we will help developing the sport of boxing in Israel.”
