The bout between WBC light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and former world champion Callum Smith, originally scheduled for Saturday, August 19, has had to be postponed due to a bone infection in Beterbiev’s jaw.
Last weekend he underwent surgery in Montreal, Canada.
Promoted by Eye of the Tiger and Top Rank, in association with Matchroom Boxing, information regarding a rescheduled date will be announced as soon as possible.
Montreal-based Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) is the only boxing world champion with a 100 percent knockout rate. Smith (29-1, 21 KOs), the WBC mandatory challenger, has won two fights by stoppage since he lost a decision in a 2020 unification fight against Saul Canelo Alvarez.
