In the capital Yerevan, at a press conference, a WBC Armenia tournament was announced, which aims to unite all Armenian boxers and give them an international window, as well as promote professional boxing throughout the country.
In recognition of this commitment, promoter Aram Davtya of Punch Boxing Promotions presented various gloves and punching bags to the Gyumri school, where about 80 youngsters are currently training, ambitious to become champions of the world, guided by former Nikolai Valuev trainer, Manvel Gabrielyan.
A new era for Armenian boxing, and not only the gym was equipped but also a talk was given by the international WBC champion, Narek Abgaryan who urged the youngsters to follow their dreams, working towards success.
Aram Avagyan, as well as the champions who graduated from the Gyumri boxing school, generated enthusiasm to everyone present.
The city of Gyumri disappeared almost entirely, because on December 7, 1988, at 11 hours 41 minutes, an earthquake of magnitude 7 almost destroyed the city.
However, despite the difficult conditions, people worked their way back and today Gyumri is one of the most important tourist destinations of that latitude.
