
In what turned out to be a real toe to toe war, the pride of Flint, Michigan, gritty Anthony Dirrell, managed to regain his WBC middleweight over intrepid Turkish fighter Avni Yildirim.
The fight had to go to the scorecards as Dirrell suffered a bad cut over his left eye due to an accidental clash of heads in the seventh round. It worsened, so to the judges´ scorecards in order to avoid unnecesary damage, after a recommendation from the Ring Doctor to the Referee Mark Nelson.
One Judge scored the fight 98-92 to Avni who came to this fight very well prepared with five victories in a row. The other two Judges scored it 96-94 in favor of Anthony.
In this way, he managed to regain the title he lost against Badou Jack in May of 2015.
“I wanted to keep going. I was upset about the cut, but I wanted to finish the fight like a chamoion. I am excited to get another title for my Grandfather.”
Before this fight, Dirrell did say this could be one of his last fights as he has been involved in boxing since he was nine. However we will have to await his decision
Boxing fans are keen to see a rematch with Yildirim after a very spirited battle between
two tremendous warriors.
