The WBC bantamweight division will feature a crucial matchup on February 7 in Liverpool, as British contender Andrew Cain takes on Mexico’s Alejandro “Konejo” González Díaz in a world title eliminator.
Cain will enter the fight backed by his home crowd and carrying the expectation of confirming his rise within the division, while González Díaz embraces the challenge as the visiting fighter, fully aware that a victory would place him among the WBC’s top contenders.
This will not be the only eliminator in the division. During a recent edition of the WBC’s weekly press conference, Martes de Café, WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán confirmed that Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada will face Japan’s Tenshin Nasukawa in another elimination bout.
Both fighters competing in Liverpool have previously held WBC titles. González Díaz has been WBC International, Silver and Latino champion at bantamweight, as well as WBC Latino champion at featherweight. Cain, meanwhile, has held the WBC Silver bantamweight title and the WBC International Silver super bantamweight championship.
