After 19 straight wins — all by stoppage — the WBC granted the American the opportunity to fight for the Interim Super Welterweight Title. He faced Sherii Buhachuk, who held the title at the time.
After a tough bout, Ortiz came away with a majority decision victory. Earlier this year, he successfully defended the belt against Israil Madrimov.
Vergil Ortiz remains undefeated with a record of 23-0 and 21 KOs.
Erickson Lubin:
From the start of his career, Lubin set his sights on WBC belts. In 2014, he won the WBC FECARBOX Super Welterweight Title.
After several victories, “Hammer” challenged Jermell Charlo for the WBC World Title at 154 pounds — a fight in which Charlo retained his championship.
Three years later, Lubin captured the WBC Silver Super Welterweight Title.
