Boxing adversities can be divides viz challenges, obstacles, and difficult situations that athletes may face in their pursuit of excellence and achievement.
These adversities can manifest themselves in various ways and at different stages during a sports career. For example, from debuting as a professional boxer to contesting world championships, and it might have a profound impact on the mindset, performance and well-being of athletes. Some of the common adversities in sports include:
1. Injuries: Injuries can be devastating for boxers, disrupting their training and competition. Injuries not only affect physical condition, but can also influence confidence and motivation, which is why many athletes retire from boxing or are inactive for a long time.
2. Defeats: Defeats are inevitable in sports. Although they can be difficult to handle, they can also provide valuable learning lessons and opportunities for growth, and we can see this in boxers like Anthony Joshua and Canelo Alvarez, athletes who seek not only sporting but personal growth.
3. Pressure and Expectations: The pressure to meet your own expectations and those of others can be overwhelming. Athletes can feel pressured to consistently perform at a high level. It is important to manage positively and above all be clear that the only expectation to meet is “ours”.
4. Balance between sport and personal life: Athletes often face difficulties in balancing their dedication to sport with other aspects of their lives, such as family, education, friendships and partner.
