Undefeated two divisions champion Rey Vargas (36-0, 22 KO`s) is promising an action- packed fight for the vacant World Boxing Council super-featherweight Green and Gold Belt against O`Shaquie Foster (19-2, 11 KO`s) on February 11th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio Texas.
At the WBC weekly press conference, which this Tuesday was in the beautiful Hacienda de Cortes in Coyocan, Southern Mexico City, Rey who´s looking more robust than his former willowy self, turned up with Dad Carlos and Mum Alejandra in two-tow. Clan Vargas is embarking on the trek to the Lone Star State next Wednesday. Ray has been working on strength and conditioning in his own hometown gym in Otumba, in the vast expanse of Estado de Mexico, making all the necessary training sacrifices, close to the pyramids of the Sun and the Moon at Teotihuacan.
Rey sid: “There are no easy of soft opponents at this level. O`Shaquie is a good fighter who also has a solid amateur background. Stylistically he`s an awkward fighter who can switch from conventional to southpaw. He`s a fine boxer, but he`s not dangerous. Against O`Shaquie, I`m going to be fast and with no retreat!
“It is impossible for him to bring a totally different strategy to each fight, especially at this level. But he knows that he`s got to make changes to have a chance of winning. I respect everyone who fights me. I don`t make predictions. I shut mouths with the results. This is a great opportunity for a third Green and Gold Belt, which few boxers have in front of them. I`m going for it!”
Sean Gibbons, the President of Manny Pacquiao Promotions was at Martes a Cafe. Ray who defeated Sean`s colleague, boxer Mark Magsayo to win the WBC featherweight belt, also at the Alamodome, smiled and told Sean he`s only in recess and could be coming back to the lower division. Unsurprised, Sean welcomed the notion. The term: “You could have knocked me over with a feather,” was previously “Marked” in reverse order, courtesy of a counter right in round nine!
