WBC, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs) will defend his titles against Anthony Yarde (23-2, 22 KOs) on Saturday, January 28 at Wembley’s OVO Arena. in London.
Beterbiev comes into this fight having knocked out tough American fighter Joe Smith Jr.
Yarde has proved his power in his last three fights, stopping Alex Theron, Stefani Koykov and Lyndon Arthur.
Both master blasters were face to face in the last press conference prior to the ring war they`ll wage.
“I don’t mind not being the favorite, when I get into the ring I’m a dog. When I get in the ring and start throwing my hands, everybody knows what I can do,” Yarde commented.
Yarde’s only career losses came in his previous world title challenge against Sergey Kovalev. And then against Lyndon Arthur, later avenged.
The British boxer gave an impressive performance, coming close to victory in the eighth round before finally being knocked out in the eleventh by “Krusher.”
Yarde said: “In the first title fight I was green. 18 fights, a great newbie to the sport. I had a heart and put up a good fight but lacked experience. Since then I have learned many things. I’m a different kind of fighter and I’m ready for Saturday.”
Beterbiev participated in the 2012 London Olympics as an amateur when he was defeated in the heavyweight division by eventual Ukrainian gold medalist Oleksandr Usyk.
He became world champion in his 12th professional fight in November 2017 and celebrated his 38th birthday last weekend.
“I know that my rival is strong and has improved. If next Saturday presents a difficult fight, I am ready for anything,” said Beterbiev.
