Kim Clavel and Jessica Nery Plata fight with a lot at stake, on Thursday in a championship Light Flyweight Unification intended to ring the changes at Place Bell Laval in Quebec, Canada.
Clavel, 31, won her WBC crown on July 29 in Montreal, defeating titleholder Yesenia Gomez by 10-round unanimous decision at the Casino de Montreal. She became the second woman and the eighth GYM world champion.
Nery Plata won her title by dethroning former Argentine champion Yesica Bobb in Panama.
Both fighters were eyes front at the font, face to face at the final press conference of this important card presented by Yvon Michel’s GYM.
“We had an excellent and demanding training camp. I am very motivated for this fight because it took me a lot to be world champion and I am not going to lose,” insisted Clavel.
“My rival is a very disciplined girl, who keeps her hands up and likes to control the center of the ring. She is difficult to move. It’s hard to adapt to her, because you don’t know what she’s going to bring. It will depend on us, in the corner, to adapt round after round,” she commented.
Nery commented: “I saw that Kim was fast, so I focused my training on that. It’s my biggest asset, but she’s certainly not the only one. I am a very versatile boxer in the ring and I am sure that we will have a great fight.”
