The WBC, WBA and IBF Middleweight Champion, the American Claressa “GWOAT” Shields, will face the English Savannah “The Silent Assassin” Marshall, WBO champion, in a unification.
It will be the main event of a card that will take place this Saturday September 10, at the O2 Arena, in London, England.
This Shields vs. Marshall fight generates maximum interest because there is a rivalry of years between them.
The two met in amateur boxing, with Marshall defeating Shields by decision in 2012 in Qinhuangdao, China. Shields went 77-1 as an amateur and is the only female boxer to win undisputed titles in two divisions as a professional.
“It means a lot to be here. I am grateful that the UK fans have accepted me, once again, to come here and fight. Savannah Marshall was lucky in 2012, but she won’t be in 2022. I was 17 and also London was hosting the Olympics and they favored her,” Shields said.
For her part, Marshall is confident that despite her admiration and respect for Shields, she will win all the world titles.
“I am a fan of Claressa Shields. What she has done for the sport is incredible. She is a pioneer of the sport, but the reality is that she will not beat me.
“The first time we fought she didn’t succeed and she won’t do it again on September 10th. I have knocked out people she fought 10 rounds. I’m not just going to beat her. I’m going to hurt her.
“This is all she need to know. I am a better fighter.”
This Shields vs. Marshall bout is sure to generate a lot of interest, in a historic evening this Saturday at the O2 Arena, as Mikaela Mayer will take on WBC Champion Alycia Baumgardner in the main undercard matchup.
The card is organized by Top Rank, Salita Promotions and Boxxer, and will be televised on ESPN+.
