Veteran former world champion Abner Mares broke an inactivity of just over four years, to face fellow Mexican Miguel Flores, achieving a majority draw, in one of the preliminary bouts of the “Andy Ruiz vs. Luis Ortiz”, which took place at the Crypto.com Arena, in Los Angeles.
Mares made a bright start pressing and attacking Flores and it looked like he could take the win by fast track. But as the rounds went by he faded and Flores took control moving Mares around the ring, forcing him on to the defensive.
At the end of 10 rounds, one Judge scored 96-94 in favor of Mares, while the other two scored 95-95 and 95-95 to give the majority draw.
With this result, Mares left his record at 31-3-2, with 15 knockouts, while Flores was 25-4-1, 12 knockouts.
