The WBC mourns the passing of Markus Beyer
The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán Saldivar, express their deepest condolences and sympathy, following the death of former WBC champion Markus Beyer, who passed away in hospital after a short illness, aged just forty seven.
Markus represented Germany in the Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996. He achieved his greatest success and most memorable triumphs with legendary coach Ulli Wegner, who said: “Marcus was a thoroughly fine human being.”
Marcus won his first WBC title in 1999 when he defeated Richie Woodhall. Seven months later, he lost his belt to another Briton, Glenn Catley. He twice won the WBC super middleweight championship belt, defeating Eric Lucas, then lost to Cristian Sanava by decision, but in the rematch he re-conquered his title by knockout.
Marcus concluded his distinguished career in 2008. Since 2015 he worked as a TV commentator performing excellent work.
The whole WBC family prays to God to give Marcus’ Family family solace at this time of such deep sorrow.
