Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz along with MP Supremo Sean Gibbons came to the WBC`s Coffee Tuesday at Sports and Chips in Mexico City, to announce that “Pitbull” will be fighting Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa on the Spence Vs Ugas bill, at the AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas on April 16th.
Cruz (22-2-1, 15KO`s) is fresh from the momentum of taking the Gervonta Davis fight on a month`s notice, after Rolando Romero withdrew, and far from making up the numbers, he fought tremendously to pressure the languid Davis all the way, plus way out of his comfort zone.
Gamboa (30-4, 18KO`s) won an Olympic Gold Medal and world titles in two divisions. Sean says the immediate aim is for Isaac to defeat him and then all eyes are on George Kambosos Jr who is the undisputed champion, with the hope plus aim that Isaac can challenge for a title within this year.
Stocky, short, broad shouldered Isaac, who`s still just twenty three is all beaming smiles outside work hours. He says that Gamboa is competent with ample experience and for that he`ll be ready to go twelve or even fifteen rounds, for a very different type of fight to Davis, who relies on a lot of leg power.
Sean who`s duties at MP include promotion, Official Matchmaker, being President and also on the ring apron, near all the company boxers on fight nights, says new WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo, who defeated Gary Russell Jr, will fight lanky Rey Vargas, who`s also undefeated and the official challenger. But the ideal scenario is to fight Leo Santa Cruz and this year. Sean says the match up of styles of Mark and Leo is a dream come true and a potential Fight of the year!
He said: “If Mark could defeat Gary, Rey and Leo in one year, well…there you go!”
