Cecilia Brækhus is exercising her option to fight a rematch with Jessica McCaskill, casting retirement thoughts aside.
McCaskill (9-2 3 KOs) became the undisputed world champion in August after defeating Cecilia by decision with scores of 97-94, 97-93 and 95-95.
Brækhus (36-1 9 KOs) was undefeated prior to facing McCaskill and afterwards she hinted at her possible retirement following her loss. However, she recovered from that disappointment to validate a rematch clause in 2021, with a date and place to be defined.
“It was the weakest performance of my entire career,” said Braekhus, who explained why she ultimately decided not to retire.
“I still feel like I won, or could have gotten a draw, and when I thought about it, I know that I can defeat her in a rematch. I also didn’t want to retire with the worst performance of my career, I definitely owe it to my fans, ”Braekhus commented.
“We knew that he would return and that it would only be a matter of time. In this sport, many people have said they are retired and then come back. I will be 100% prepared for the second fight, ”commented the former world champion.
