The legendary Mexican boxer David “Macetón” Cabrera passed away this past Saturday as a result of complications from Covid-19.
The World Boxing Council, as well as President Mauricio Sulaimán, express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this former national light heavyweight champion who contested a WBC cruiserweight eliminator.
Born in Juchitan, Oaxaca, David made history in spite of a serious motorcycle accident which permanently affected his right leg. David overcame this adversity. It typified him.
His last public appearance was on “Martes de Café” where the WBC and the Mexico City Boxing Commission paid tribute to him for his very successful career in boxing.
David was a champion who made a great career in the 80’s with memorable fights that he mostly dominated. The stiffness of his leg never hampered his courageous fighting spirit. He seldom took a backward step…so characteristic of the man.
We mourn the passing of David, but we will forever cherish the marvelous memories he leaves us.
What a legacy and what a man!
Rest in Peace Dear Champion and forever Friend.
