A day like today, Jose Legra became WBC champion

December 16, 1972.- Cuban-Spanish Jose Legra became WBC featherweight champion after defeating Mexican  Clemente Sanchez by TKO in the 10^th round. The  crown  was vacant as Sanchez, who was supposed to defend the title,  failed  to make the weight,  a few hours  beforehand. The fight was  at the Monumental  Bullring in Monterrey.
