Those of us who form part of the World Boxing Council, especially our President Mauricio Sulaiman, are greatly saddened by the death of the former President of the Republic of Uruguay, Dr. Tabaré Vázquez, a very beloved and admired man in his country.
Mr. Sulaimán had the memorable honor of being received in March 2017 by Dr. Tabaré Vázquez, who supported the job request made to the Uruguayan Commission for Amateur and Professional Boxing (CUBAP), headed by Sergio Márquez. Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz was present at that same meeting.
On that great occasion, the former President confessed his preference for Saúl “Canelo” Alvarez, likewise, he praised the trajectory and life’s work of Don José Sulaimán, for all he did for the good of boxing, a sport he practiced in the amateur field, declaring himself a fan of boxing.
The President of the WBC sends his deepest condolences to both the family and many friends of Dr. Tabaré Vázquez, as well as to the entire Uruguayan people in solidarity for the memory of a great man, who faithfully served his country.
Rest in Eternal Peace Forever Friend.
