Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt, a brilliant world champion

The super featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt, is one of the most rock solid monarchs today, because in addition to having made six successful defenses of his crown, in each fight he shows marked development and improvement in his ring generalship, punching power and astute boxing.
Miguel, born on November 17, 1991 in Cancun, Quintana Roo and wanted to become a soccer star. An admirer of the Pumas team and the iconic player Hugo Sánchez, he auditioned for admission to the youth team, but was rejected.

He soon found a different sport and that became his new passion, beginning to train boxing at 16 years old.

His professional boxing debut was on his 19th birthday (November 17, 2010), starting the path to fulfill a new dream, to be crowned world champion.

After a spectacular 15-bout winning streak he finally had a chance to contest and win the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Featherweight Title, from which he made his first defense just two months later.

On March 15, 2014, Berchelt had his first and only defeat at the hands of Luis Eduardo Flores, in a fight held in Chiapas. This defeat made him acquire more maturity and correct mistakes that led him to evolve as a boxer by leaps and bounds.

After returning to the path of triumph and reaping important victories, the moment of his consecration arrived on January 28, 2017, when he defeated former champion Francisco “Bandido” Vargas with  an impressive and bloody war, snatching from him the World Boxing Council super featherweight belt and thus fulfilling his dream of becoming a Green and Gold champion.

“Alacran” conviction in his ability to be great has been unshakable, even before his talent became evident in the ring. That is why he is recognized as one of the strongest champions in the world.

He is more than ready for the next stage of his career, one that he hopes will position him alongside some of boxing’s Mexican icons.

One of the most anticipated fights of the year is the confrontation between “Alacrán” and former champion Óscar Valdez. He will have to wait a little longer, because our champion tested positive for Covid-19.
