WBC flyweight champion Ibeth “Roca” Zamora joined “Coffee Tuesday” to talk about her return to the ring on October 30th on the card presented by Chiquita Boxing dubbed: “To the ring for them.”
Ibeth, who faces Edith Flores in an eight-round non title fight, is eager to return to the ring again, as the pandemic has affected and curtailed boxing activities for more than half of this year. It’s also significant, as the card is dedicated to raising awareness of purse inequality between men and women, which still exists in professional boxing. This must end once and for all.
The champion congratulated the organizers because many times women’s boxing is the relegated second option of some promoters. However, women boxers are starring in this one.
Regarding her rival, Ibeth said that she cannot and won’t be over confident now she is the champion, because even though this is not a title fight, the commitment she has to come out with victory is something she owes to her fans and to her new promoter MTK, who opened their doors for her and have offered all their support.
“I am very excited, because I have not been in the ring for a while and I want to show people that I am a much stronger Ibeth. I am sure that this new version will be of the everyone’s liking.
“ I am very grateful to Chiquita Boxing for considering me to fight in this card and I can only say that you cannot miss the show that will be broadcast on TVC Deportes and on Facebook Live Chiquita González.”
Ibeth also wished Sulem Urbina and Marlén Esparza the best of luck. They will clash in an elimination fight on October 30th. Ibeth is making it crystal clear that she is ready to face the winner.
Humberto González Jr., organizer of the event, assured that this card will be the beginning of a transformation in women’s boxing, because not only a competitive salary be offered, but for some of the protagonists this is the first time that they are taken into account to participate in a card.
He said it’s necessary for women to receive fair purses because, just as men give their all in a fight, so do women. Therefore it is important to raise awareness and be an example for other promoters.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, wished luck to all the participants and congratulated our beloved champion Humberto Gonzalez, since doing a card dedicated to women is something that dignifies the sport. He also spoke about what Ibeth represents for boxing and for the WBC and offered a replica of the Otomí Belt to the champion who is an outstanding representative of the culture.
