Longyi Hu takes WBC China Glory

The ancient Chinese city of Chuxiong played host to the first World Boxing Council China championship title contest of the year, this past weekend.

Two aspiring boxers, Chunhua Yang and Longyi Hu, clashed for the right to be crowned the new WBC China bantamweight champion on the Aidimei Sport promoted event in front of a packed audience in the historic downtown area of Chuxiong.

It was the latter, Longyi, who came out on top over a grueling eight-round contest. A bout which was not made easy to compete in with the city located at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level.

21-year old Hu, started the stronger, using his speed and agility to outwork the heavy-hitting Yang. He and his team worked a near-perfect game plan for the opening rounds, executing efficient combinations to impress the judges, while defensively staying on the back foot and out of the range of his opponents feared power punches.

The strategy worked a treat as Hu stepped on the gas going into the second half of the contest landing with speed and accuracy against the technical Yang, who for his part could not get to grips with the ring guile and athleticism of Hu, who showcased a winning mindset throughout the domestic championship encounter.
