We have received the sad news of the death of our very dear friend Bobby Lee, this Wednesday in Hawaii at the age of 99.
Robert Lee was born on March 29, 1921 in Maui, Hawaii and was actively involved in boxing for nearly 80 years, from being an amateur fighter with 45 bouts, to becoming the most outstanding Boxing Commissioner in his home state.
Bobby was a close friend of the greatest promoter in Hawaii, Sam “Sad” Ichinose, who promoted 425 fights during his career.
Bobby became President of the WBA for two terms. At the end of his tenure, he held positions of great importance in the World Boxing Council, which was conferred on him by his friend Don José Sulaimán.
Bobby, who was also a music lover (we will always keep in mind those pleasant moments when he was humming hits from the great bands of his time), conducted his entire life with honesty and passion for boxing. He will always be remembered as an exemplary person, but even more so, as a great and loyal, friend.
The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán Saldivar, send Bobby’s family and many friends their deepest condolences. Bobby will always be remembered.
