Mexican Julio César Martínez will face Nicaraguan Cristofer Rosales for the vacant WBC flyweight title at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday, December 20, live on DAZN for the United States; and in Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.
Martínez (14-1 11 KOs) aims to obtain the title in a second attempt after his controversial confrontation with former champion Charlie Edwards in London in August. The Mexican had Edwards in serious trouble in the third round after sending him to the canvas; however, Martinez landed a blow to the body while Edwards was on the ground, so the victory by KO for Martinez was annulled and changed to a No Contest.
Edwards left the vacant title to go up to super-fly division thus opening the door to this interesting fight.
Rosales (29-4 20 KOs) aims to recover the title he won in April 2018 in Japan with a victory over Daigo Higa, and he successfully defended the title against Irish Paddy Barnes in Belfast four months later, before falling against Charlie Edwards in London, by decision.
