The World Boxing Council and its President, Mauricio Sulaimán, join in prayer, after receiving the very sad news of the passing of Don Alejandro Burillo Azcárraga, a man whose vision, leadership, and profound love for Mexico, encouraged, helped and achieved with brilliance, the development of sports and telecommunications throughput our country, and much further afield.
Don Alejandro was so much more than a prominent businessman. He was a tireless, enthusiastic, dedicated and innovative promoter of Mexican talent and a historic ally, demonstrating deep loyalty to and affinity with the sporting world. His commitment to excellence and his perceptive initiative, allowed thousands of families to enjoy the most memorable moments in sports history through his groundbreaking work in the media and his leadership at the head of important institutions. He led by example.
In these moments of profound sadness, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. We join in the grief felt his loved ones, but also thanking God for a wonderful and so memorable life, in which he made so many friends and made his colleagues and his family so very proud.
