WBC Cares Lights Up Puebla with Champions and Ambassadors
On Saturday, April 11, the spirit of WBC Cares arrived at the Magnífico Boxing Gym in the heart of Puebla, delivering a powerful message of hope, dedication and perseverance to the local youth.
The event featured a distinguished head table led by the reigning WBC world Champion and Puebla native, Gabriela “Bonita” Sánchez. She was joined by legendary former world champion Guadalupe Martínez, the veteran “Zurdo” Galicia, WBC Cares ambassadors Beka Romero and Josejas, alongside the gym’s host and director, Hugo Anaya.
Inspiration in the Ring of Life
Addressing an audience of over 70 children and teenagers, “Bonita” Sánchez opened the session by sharing her origins:
”I started boxing at a very young age by chance. After an incident where I was attacked, I found the motivation to train. I overcame difficult times during my adolescence, always keeping my focus on moving forward. I reached my goal of becoming a world champion and making history. Today, I tell you: never give up; you are capable of achieving everything you set your mind to.”
In her turn, Beka Romero, representing the KO al Bullying (KO Bullying) program, delivered a dynamic talk focused on transforming young lives through sporting values. Under the premise that true “Champions of Life” are those who protect and respect others rather than intimidate them, Beka reaffirmed the WBC’s commitment to eradicating youth violence.
The great Lupita Martínez moved the attendees by recounting her journey to the pinnacle of world boxing. With the same tenacity that defined her in the ring, she advised the young athletes to remain resilient in the face of any adversity to conquer their dreams.Boxing as a Vehicle for Transformation.
To conclude the remarks, Josejas reaffirmed the mission of using boxing as a tool for healing and empowerment. The influential activist highlighted the organization’s social impact and how the vision of Don José Sulaimán, carried forward by Mauricio Sulaimán, has kept the “Green and Gold” as a beacon of direct support for boxers and the community.
An Unforgettable Finale: A Ring of a Different Kind!
The event culminated in a moment of deep emotion. In the presence of the champions and the WBC family, trainer Hugo Anaya surprised everyone by proposing to his girlfriend, Liz. Amidst applause and tears of joy, the WBC ambassadors witnessed the beginning of this new chapter in the couple’s life.
