
Tokyo’s legendary Korakuen Hall was the stage for a thrilling night of boxing this past April 3, featuring the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Super Welterweight Championship. In an event presented by the prestigious TEIKEN promotions, reigning monarch Tsukuru Midorikawa successfully defended his crown against the tough #15 ranked challenger, Hisashi Kato.
The bout, supervised by Tsuyoshi Yasukochi, lived up to the high expectations of the Japanese fans.
From the opening bell, Midorikawa demonstrated the experience and power that keep him at the top of the division, controlling the attacks of a relentless Kato.
The conclusion came at 2:12 of the seventh round, when referee Takeru Okaniwa determined the challenger could not continue, decreeing a Technical Knockout (TKO) victory for Midorikawa. With this result, the champion reaffirms his dominance at 154 pounds in the region.
The judging panel consisted of Koji Tanaka, Kazutoshi Yoshida, and Saemi Okaniwa, who tallied the action until the stoppage. With this triumph, Tsukuru Midorikawa consolidates his legacy in the OPBF region and prepares for new international challenges under the Green and Gold banner.
