Four months ago, WBC Silver Champion Gabriela “Bonita” Sánchez and Argentina’s Tamara “Rebelde” DeMarco first clashed for the WBC Interim Title in Gaby’s hometown of Puebla.
The bout was over almost before it truly began due to an accidental clash of heads, which left Tamara with a severe gash on her left eyebrow, resulting in a technical draw.
This Saturday night at the Arena GNP, the two will trade leather once again. The victor is likely to advance toward a showdown with the formidable undisputed champion, Gabriela Fundora.
At their final press conference, held on the fourth floor of the magnificent Royalty Hotel, both fighters showed mutual respect, yet the adrenaline in the room was palpable.
Unlike their previous encounter—where she appeared tense and somber—Tamara was all smiles, beaming and relaxed. Gaby, sporting stylish mauve glasses, frequently flashed her dazzling signature smile.
In a touching moment, Gaby’s son and Tamara’s daughter and son were presented with WBC medals, while Gaby’s vocal supporters cheered themselves hoarse in the background.

Gaby stated that this time she is focused on utilizing her height and reach advantages. She is hoping for a clean, fair fight to make her fans proud, though she made it clear she is hunting for a knockout.
Tamara, a former WBO Flyweight Champion, said that capturing the Green and Gold Belt would be a dream come true, thanking destiny for this “second bite at the cherry.”
While Tamara vows the belt will travel south to Argentina, Gaby insists it is most definitely staying put in Puebla.
Gaby has been sharpening her tools with altitude training in Malinche, Tlaxcala, while Tamara has undergone a grueling camp in her homeland. The challenger claims she is undaunted by entering the “Lioness’s Den,” noting that on Saturday, there will only be three people inside the ring.
Gaby, however, says she has a point to prove, promising to rain down powerful, well-directed punches on her shorter opponent.
The blue skies of Puebla may be calm now, but they are expected to turn stormy over the weekend. In this rivalry, it never rains—it pours.
