Estefany “Fanny” Alegría surged back, to authoritatively defeat Danna Paola “La Girita” Alanís and secure the World Boxing Council Silver Light Flyweight title in a bout held in Gómez Palacio, Durango.
Fanny Alegría had an uncertain start and gave up ground in the early rounds, allowing the fighter from the State of Mexico to take control of the action. However, she managed to right the course and deliver a high-level battle that ultimately halted Alanís’ aspirations of having her arm raised.
Danna Paola tried to react and went all out to regain ground, but Alegría’s wide offensive repertoire—punctuated by severe punishment to the body—gradually wore down the resistance of “La Girita.” Alanís constantly looked for ways to do damage, yet saw her chances of capturing the crown ebb, then slip away.
It was ten intense rounds that kept the attendees at the Palenque in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico, on the edge of their seats. In the end, Alegría Osorio took the WBC belt with scorecards of 98-92, 98-92, and 97-93 in what resulted in a vibrant contest.
