Victory isn’t a stretch of imagination for Keith Thurman
Former Unified World Champion Keith “One Time” Thurman is preparing for what he defines as the most significant chapter of his career: a showdown against the reigning WBC World Super Welterweight Champion, Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora.
The main event, set for Saturday, March 28th, at the iconic MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, will headline the PBC Pay-Per-View via Prime Video. For Thurman, this fight represents not only the return of one of the most charismatic fighters of the last decade but his direct ticket to sporting immortality.
Thurman, who has not held a world title since 2019, enters the ring motivated by a comeback narrative. “This will definitely cement my place as a Hall of Famer,” the American stated. “Boxing loves stories of comebacks and returning in glory; this is one of the biggest in the game today.”
Despite previous delays due to injuries, “One Time” this time, asserts he has found the maturity and patience required for this challenge. Following the retirement of his longtime mentor Dan Birmingham, Thurman will step into the ring with the guidance of veteran trainer Tony Morgan, a figure who has known his style since his amateur days and has guided champions like Andre Berto to world glory.
Thurman’s path to 154 pounds was formulated unexpectedly. After observing Sebastian Fundora’s rise and his coronation against Tim Tszyu, Keith identified the towering champion as the perfect tall order opportunity to reclaim the prestigious WBC Green and Gold belt.
“I knew I wanted to win a world title, and once Fundora won the rematch, I knew my path to the world title was going through him,” Thurman affirmed. The challenger warned that his strategy will rely on ring IQ and his renowned power: “I’m going to look to set traps, drop those hammers on him, and hopefully end the fight early. Fundora has never seen anything like this.”
