Martes de Café at Magdalena Contreras Borough Hall
Today, the WBC’s weekly press conference, Martes de Café, was held at the “Víctor Manuel Mendoza” cinema located in Magdalena Contreras Borough.
The conference was attended by the borough mayor, Lic. Fernando Mercado; the Ambassador of Jordan to Mexico, His Excellency Adli Qasen Muhammad Alkhaledi; the WBC interim lightweight champion, Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz; WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman; among others.
Several important topics were addressed throughout the conference, beginning with the borough’s commitment to open four new public boxing gyms. The mayor announced that, working alongside “Pitbull” Cruz and the WBC, they will develop a training program for these gyms, which will become the first 24-hour boxing gyms.
The Ambassador of Jordan to Mexico, His Excellency Adli Qasen Muhammad Alkhaledi, took the microphone to highlight the work of the World Boxing Council over the years and specifically praised the “Boxing for Peace” program.
Also in attendance was boxer Gloria “Pantera Rosa” Bautista, who at the end of last year won the WBC Continental Latin American bantamweight title. Mauricio Sulaiman officially presented her with the belt, congratulating her and encouraging her to make it the first of many green and gold belts.
For his part, Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz expressed his excitement about the “Boxing for Peace” program, stating that many Mexican champions will emerge from it. The champion also shared his pride in being from Magdalena Contreras and encouraged young people to take up boxing.
Josejas, WBC ambassador, was also present and, alongside Mauricio Sulaiman, the ambassador, and Mayor Mercado, awarded two young boxers with Down syndrome. Their coach, Obed Aguilar, encouraged those in attendance to give greater visibility to boxers with disabilities.
