The World Boxing Council celebrates in style to commemorate the twelfth anniversary of Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar as President of the organization.
This milestone marks more than a decade of management defined by boxer safety, modernization, innovation and the preservation of the legacy of his father, the eternal Don José Sulaimán.
It was exactly twelve years ago when, following the passing of Don José—who led the organization with love, dedication, tenacity and brilliance for 38 years—the members of the WBC Board of Governors from around the world placed their absolute trust in Mauricio.
On that historic day of destiny, Mauricio was unanimously elected with 26 votes in his favor, shouldering the responsibility of guiding the path of the most important sanctioning body in global boxing.
“We will do what is best for boxing. We will continue with my father’s plans and keep improving the sport,” Mauricio promised on the morning of his election. Today, twelve years later, that promise has been transformed into a tangible reality through social responsibility programs, advancements in medical protocols, and unprecedented administrative transparency.
A legacy of values and commitment under the leadership of Mauricio Sulaimán, the WBC has not only consolidated its position as an industry leader but has also reinforced the exemplary values that Don José promoted: honesty, responsibility, respect, solidarity, loyalty, and friendship.
During his tenure, Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar has worked tirelessly, assiduously and intelligently to boost boxer safety through medical research and weighing protocols; he has also actively contributed to expanding women’s boxing, giving it the prominence and respect it deserves worldwide. Mauricio has fostered unity in the sport, opening channels of dialogue with all stakeholders in the industry.
The World Boxing Council family proudly celebrates this anniversary. More than a Presidential, Mauricio Sulaimán has established himself as a guide who has known how to honor the past while building an innovative future for the sport of fisticuffs.
Congratulations, Mauricio, for twelve years of passion and total dedication to boxing!
