
The World Boxing Council straw weight champion, Costa Rican Yokasta Valle, successfully defended her title by defeating American challenger Yadira Bustillos via majority decision at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
Valle and Bustillos faced off in 10 fierce and bloody 2-minute rounds. The pace was frantic and frenetic from start to finish. In the third round, an accidental headbutt left Valle with a severe gash/slash on her right temple and Bustillos with a wound on her right ear.
Many rounds were closely and fiercely contested. Ultimately, the judges scored the bout 95-95, 98-92, and 96-94, confirming Valle as the WBC Champion and as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world today.
With this win, Valle improved her record to 34-3 (10 KOs), while Bustillos is now 11-2 (2 KOs). Valle remains one of the most beloved athletes in Costa Rica, bringing her elite quality and sunny personality to the world’s biggest stages, as she proved tonight in this war against Bustillos.
