
With safety of boxers as the number one priority, the WBC’s Medical Advisory Committee outlined some of the top issues to the sixty the Convention in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr Ricardo Monreal said the most important focus is to make boxing as safe as possible. The MRI is non invasive, painless and ninety five percent accurate. The ophtalmological exam, blood work, female pregnancy tests and observance of the VADA Clean Boxing protocol. Yet only sixty five percent of championship fights comply with WBC requirements.
The WBC has voted to impose fines upon those who do not adhere to medical stipulations.
Concerning sparring, there is no template. The sparring rounds can range from thirty to one hundred and fifty in preparing for a fight. Few gyms report sparring injuries or keep a weekly log. Dr Monreal says there is a fear to share data or information, but lives are at stake. It was proposed and approved that gyms must report sparring injuries to their local Commissions.
