Carlos Utria, the idol from Soplaviento, seeks to become the new face of Colombian boxing on the world stage.
Carlos Utria, 22, is the young Colombian who dreams of glory in Saudi Arabia, and on December 20th he will face Uzbekistan’s Mujibillo Tursunov in the Boxing Grand Prix final in the super featherweight division.
Carlos Utria, born in Soplaviento (Bolívar), has burst onto the international boxing scene. With just 13 professional fights, he secured his fourth victory in the WBC Grand Prix by defeating South African Ntethelelo Nkosi by technical knockout at just 1:37 of the first round.
This victory takes him straight to the tournament’s grand final, to be held on December 20, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he will face the undefeated Uzbek Mujibillo Tursunov.
Utria doesn’t underestimate the challenge: he acknowledges Tursunov’s perfect record and amateur experience, but affirms he is fully prepared to give it his all.
For him, this Grand Prix is more than just a competition: it’s an opportunity to showcase himself to the world, open doors with international promoters, and solidify his name as one of the rising stars of Latin American boxing.
Furthermore, his family connection is very strong: he trains with his father, Lenyn Utria, who has supported him from the beginning and has been key to his development as a fighter.
Throughout his four bouts in this competition, he has proven to be one of the most versatile boxers in the tournament. He does practically everything in the ring: he has great defense, counterpunching, he knows how to brawl, he has a lethal punch, and he seems to have the ability to adapt to any style he faces in order to secure victory, regardless of the opponent. Several experts are already predicting a successful future for him, with high expectations that he will become a World Boxing Council champion in the not-too-distant future.
