The World Boxing Council and our President , Mauricio Sulaimán, express profound sorrow and deepest condolences, following the passing of former boxer and beloved member of the boxing family, Vanes Martirosyan, who lost his brave battle against cancer.
Vanes, known for his indomitable fighting spirit inside and outside the ring, fought a long, courageous and difficult battle against this terrible illness.
During this time, the WBC provided him with support through the José Sulaimán Boxers Fund, an initiative created to help members of the boxing community in times of need.
Although he received the best possible treatment and fought with admirable determination, he unfortunately could not overcome this daunting obstacle.
The WBC asks the global boxing community to join in prayer for the eternal rest of Vanes Martirosyan. His legacy as a boxer and his fighting spirit will live on as a shining and an inspiring memory to all, who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in Peace Dear Friend Vanes Martirosyan. How we will miss you.
