With her Silver flyweight Belt on the line and the vacant Interim Belt up for grabs, Gabriela “Bonita” Sanchez is all smiles..but only outside the ring.
She takes on Tamara “Rebelde” Demarco, who has come all the way from Buenas Aires, Argentina to give her a fight to remember, in Puebla. Bonita’s adoring home town and home turf.
Tamara who is noticeably shorter than Gaby and stocky, none the less, looks in top shape, saying she has prepared four hard slog months for the most important fight of her career, yet saying she has faced tougher opponents.
She said that as her nickname Rebel suggests, she’s tends to go against the grain and as such is quite happy to venture into the lioness’ Den.
Tamara says she is calm and focused while realizing the magnitude of Saturday, in front of a home crowd which is likely to number ten thousand.
Bonita says her heroines are Barby Juarez, and Jackie Nava, so quite a tradition to try and emulate.
She also said:”This fight for two belts is so important for my career. It’s one more dream and one more step to embark upon and fulfill. Fights are won in the gym and with sacrifice.”
Asked about the beauty and the beast factor. Gaby laughed, but said outside the ring civilized behavior. But up in the ring, the beauty of Boxing is focus, concentration and…gritty, resolute determination.
