In a packed press conference at the auditorium of the Federal Protection Service (SPF), the seventh edition of the Annual Amateur Tournament of the Federal Protection Service was officially presented.
The event brings together members from various administrative units of the SPF, as well as representatives from SEDENA, the Banking and Industrial Police, the Mexico City Police, and the Ministerial Police of the State of Mexico.
President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar, highlighted the importance of this type of initiative promoted by security institutions.
“These tournaments are the very soul of boxing. Beyond being a sport, they represent an activity that fosters a sense of family and offers many the opportunity to choose a path of values and discipline, steering away from negative influences. Despite all challenges, this tradition has endured thanks to the effort of the Federal Protection Service,” he stated.

Mauricio emphasized that sports are an essential tool for generating positive change in society—not only for their physical benefits but also for their impact on mental health.
“Boxing goes beyond the ring; it is a strategic form of training that promotes discipline, perseverance, dedication, professionalism, and passion—qualities every police officer and public servant should possess,” he noted.
The tournament is being held in the Central Ring of the SPF facilities, with the participation of 45 men and women. The competition began today and will conclude on Friday, November 7, with the finals.

The opening ceremony featured the presence of former world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce and former WBC Silver Super Bantamweight champion Juan “Elegante” Martínez, who interacted with the participants and highlighted the value of boxing as a tool for personal and professional growth.
Jorge delighted everyone by doing a merry jig and some dexterous shadow boxing, when he climbed up into the ring. Always a Scamp, the old magic which won him four world championships, is still there!
For his part, Chief Commissioner and Master Francisco Moreno, Director General of Professionalization at the SPF, explained that this year a rigorous selection process was implemented, as all participating institutions sent their best representatives. “Everyone wants to take home the WBC Green and Gold Amateur Belts,” he said.
Moreno urged the competitors to give of their best plus their utmost and emphasized that tournaments like this, are where future world champions are born. “One of the goals of the Federal Protection Service is to prepare its members not only academically but also athletically, as sports help build character, discipline, and a healthy sense of competition. I am certain that new boxing idols will emerge from this tournament,” he concluded.
