Cuban southpaw Guillermo Rigondeaux scored a crucial plus stunningly sensational KO victory over Mexican puncher Julio Ceja, neatly placing himself as the mandatory challenger of the 122-pound champion, Rey Vargas.
From the first round the Cuban made it clear that he came to fight Ceja hard and this was demonstrated throughout the give and take brawling until the eighth round, when the referee determined that Ceja, who had been felled by a mighty left hook, was unable to continue.
It was a very entertaining match where Rigondeaux (19-1, 13 KOs) proved that he is a fighter who can offer a great show using his refined style of boxing. But also fighting in the trenches, at short range.
“It was all a matter of time. People say that I run, but tonight I went out to win. Let’s see what they are going to say now,” Rigondeaux said.
The Cuban often dominated the epicenter of the ring to exchange blows with Ceja (32-4, 28 knockouts).
Ceja, as usual, attacked with gusto at all times, but Rigondeaux never took a step back.
Twenty six year fresh Ceja threw appreciably more blows than the Cuban Jackal, who specifically focused on being more precise and ultimately hurtful.

Desde el primer round el cubano dejó claro que llegaba a pelear sin tregua con Ceja y así lo demostró durante toda la pelea hasta el octavo asalto, cuando con un potente zurdazo derribó al guerrero azteca y el referí determinó que no estaba en condiciones de seguir parado en el ring.
Fue un combate muy entretenido donde Rigondeaux (19-1, 13 nocauts) demostró que es un peleador que puede mostrar un gran espectáculo por su depurado estilo de boxear.
“Todo fue cuestión de tiempo. La gente dice que yo corro, pero esta noche salí a fajarme. A ver qué van a decir ahora”, expresó Rigondeaux.
En esta ocasión el cubano se paró a intercambiar golpes con Ceja (32-4, 28 nocauts) en la corta distancia y demostró que el estilo mexicano no le es ajeno cuando se trata de ganar por cualquier vía.
Ceja, como de costumbre, fue al frente en todo momento, pero Rigondeaux nunca dio un paso atrás.
